| Needleless Vaccines
As part of a global campaign to eradicate measles, Creare engineers are working on a variety of technologies to make needleless measles vaccine delivery possible. Though largely eliminated in the U.S., measles causes nearly a million deaths each year, mostly in developing countries, and has been difficult to eliminate worldwide because of technological barriers to fast, safe, and cost-effective delivery.
A single-vial auto-reconstitution system that is compatible with a broad range of vaccine delivery methodsincluding conventional syringes, needle-free jet injectors, and aerosol deviceshas been successfully developed. Additionally, for the same project, a pre-filled jet injector cartridge that utilizes a minimal number of low-cost parts and which functions in existing jet injectors without modification has been designed and built. At the time of this printing, Creare awaits joint patent awards with the Centersfor Disease Control to commercialize this technology.
Ongoing Creare projects continue in aerosol delivery of the vaccine and development of prototype low-cost inhalers, all in the battle to eliminate this killer disease.
