Creare has developed a networked driving simulation that utilizes a force feedback steering wheel and standard Internet protocols for network communications. This application consists of:

• A “Haptic application,” which runs on the computer connected to the steering wheel. This application displays 3D real-time graphics to the user, applies force feedback to the steering wheel, and samples user input from the steering wheel and gas and brake pedals.

• An environment server that defines what the user “feels” runs on a networked computer. This server includes a proprietary Creare physics-based vehicle dynamics model.

Built from the ground up at Creare, this system includes the following technologies:

• Creare’s Passive Transmission Line Modeling and Haptic Dead Reckoning technology solutions.

• A Creare-developed Windows NT force feedback steering system.

• The freely available ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE™) framework for low-level networking functions.

• 3D real-time graphic rendering powered by Global Majic Software's 3DlinX software.
