Miniature Fans and Blowers
Creare applies a fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics; a practical knowledge of bearings, seals, motors, and power systems; and long experience with materials and fabrication methods to produce miniature fans and blowers for challenging applications. A thorough understanding of the fluid dynamics that control blower performance enables us to choose the optimal type of blower (centrifugal, regenerative, cross-flow, etc.) to meet specific performance requirements. We use computational fluid dynamics to design blades and internal flow passages for optimal head/flow characteristics, and to develop simpler models for blower/motor performance for overall system optimization. Our blowers can incorporate a wide range of materials, and we have developed innovative techniques to produce complex shapes that enable the best blower performance. Operating speeds range from 1000 to 100,000 rpm. We have developed unique test facilities and methods to measure the head/flow performance and efficiency of our blowers. Our services range from conceptual design to production of deliverable prototypes. Teamed with our sister company Edare, Creare can support customers with blower development programs through low-rate initial production. |

For NASA Johnson Space Center, we have developed an innovative regenerative blower for space suit ventilation that forces suit ventilation gas through multiple process components in the portable life support system. This blower meets challenging requirements for oxygen safety, low power consumption, small size, and light weight. For the U.S. Army, Creare developed a Personal Air Ventilation System (PAVS) that forces cool, filtered air through chem/bio protective garments to help soldiers avoid heat stress and operate effectively in hot environments. Also for the Army, we developed an innovative and efficient crossflow blower that cools high-power electronic components while consuming low power and meeting challenging constraints on size and shape. We have developed innovative miniature blowers for cooling electronics in laptop computers. |
