Cargo Nets
Current techniques for tying down military cargo such as ammunition usually require extensive preplanning of loads and construction of special packaging or dunnage. The methods are labor intensive and often dont adapt well to unusual or partial loads.
Creare developed an improved, more flexible cargo tie-down system for the Army for highway, cross-country, and rail transport. The goal was to develop a system that could be used by troops in the field, facilitated quick loading and off-loading, and was suitable for mixed sized and shaped packages. Creares design utilizes a specially-fabricated cargo net and attachment/tensioning devices. Our development involved extensive testing of net materials and configurations in the laboratory as well as the construction of a subscale impact test system capable of simulating the Army rail car impact tests.
Following development and testing at Creare, our cargo nets were successfully tested on trucks and railroad cars at the Defense Ammunition Center in McAlester, OK.
