CREARE WINS DOE FUNDING TO FURTHER DEVELOP ITS FUEL PIN CASTING PROCESS

Future nuclear power plan designs will use large numbers of metallic fuel pins made of uranium alloys, but existing casting methods are slow and costly.  Creare has won an SBIR Phase II award from US DOE to continue development of an innovative continuous casting to produce precision metal pins at very low cost. Creare will further refine and extend the process, and transfer the technology from current simulated materials to uranium-zirconium alloys.
