New Correlations for Boiling Heat Transfer in Cryogenic Fuel Tanks
Creare and the Two-Phase Flow and Thermal Management Lab at Case Western Reserve University have teamed to measure heat transfer and develop new correlations for boiling heat transfer in cryogenic fuel tanks. This work supports modeling and design for efficient propellant storage and transfer in future exploration spacecraft and has been published in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. The first phase of this NASA-sponsored program focused on critical heat flux (CHF) and has resulted in new correlations for cryogenic CHF that improve significantly on the accuracy of the best existing correlations.
